Popular local councillors Dave Oldham and Tony Sutton lost their council seats in local elections that saw massive national losses for the Liberal Democrats - who also lost all six seats in Nottingham. Local party chair Issan Ghazni said "I know that Tony and Dave worked extremely hard for their area and that this was not a vote about their record locally but a vote against the Lib Dems in parliament.
The most commonly mentioned issue on the doorstep was Nick Clegg's U-turn on student tuition fees".
Dave said "I would like to thank all those people who supported us. I live in the area and will carry on working for the area as best I can."The elections leave Nottingham with only a small (Conservative) opposition. This means Labour locally can carry on running the Council with no one to keep a proper eye on them.
