Orston Drive Empty Home
There is currently a shortage of homes in England with housing waiting lists growing all the time. At the moment there are 1 million empty homes with 350,000 of these being empty long term.
There are too many empty homes left unused. If all of the empty homes were brought back in to use our country could half the housing waiting list.
Dave Oldham, who used to be a councillor in Wollaton East and Lenton Abbey, has been campaigning to have an empty bungalow on Orston Drive, near Orston Green brought back in to use.
This property has been empty for a while and Dave reported it to the Council when it started looking untidy. This problem has been sorted by the owner, but the property is still not back in use and there is nothing to show it might be soon. Dave says "Because the home is not empty and untidy or derelict the Council will not take any stronger action. This is not good enough."
As shown in the recent Channel 4 TV programmes, empty properties in our country are a national scandal and need to be brought back in to use to help solve the shortage of homes available. Approximately 85% of these empty properties are privately owned. These owners must be encouraged to make the most of these potential homes.
